Online Safety at Awsworth Primary & Nursery School

At Awsworth, we know that growing up today means growing up online.

Children use technology every day—to learn, to play, and to stay connected with friends. That’s a positive thing. But just like learning to cross the road safely, children need guidance to navigate the online world too.

Our aim is simple: for every child to feel safe, confident, and responsible online.

We work closely with families so the messages children hear in school are the same ones they hear at home.

What Online Safety Looks Like at Awsworth

Online safety isn’t a one-off lesson here—it’s part of everyday school life.

We teach children to:

  • ✔️ Make safe choices when using apps, games, and websites
  • ✔️ Understand personal information and how to protect it
  • ✔️ Be kind and respectful online
  • ✔️ Recognise when something doesn’t feel right
  • ✔️ Speak to a trusted adult

You’ll often hear our simple rule:

Stop – Close – Tell

We also take part in events like Safer Internet Day to keep learning fresh and relevant.

A Message for Parents and Carers

You don’t need to be a tech expert.

The biggest difference comes from simple, regular conversations.

Try:

  • Keeping devices in shared spaces
  • Setting clear routines around screen time
  • Talking about online life like you would their school day
  • Reassuring your child they can always come to you

If children know they won’t be in trouble, they’re much more likely to speak up.
