1. Safeguarding Pathway

Purpose: Reporting concerns that a child may be at risk of harm, abuse or neglect.

Immediate danger

If a child is in immediate danger, call 999. Do not wait to contact the school first.

On-site contacts:

  • Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL): B Painter (safeguarding@awsworthprimary.org)

  • Deputy DSL(s): A Grocutt, N Clarke or E Reckles

2. Welfare & Wellbeing Pathway

Purpose: Non-safeguarding concerns about a child's happiness, mental health, friendships, SEND needs, or general wellbeing — things that need support rather than child-protection escalation.

First point of contact:

  • Class teacher (day-to-day concerns)

  • SENDCo: L Groves (send@awsworthprimary.org — for learning/SEND-related welfare concerns

Escalation within school:

  • Phase leader / Deputy Head → Headteacher, if unresolved

External wellbeing support to signpost:

  • Kooth / YoungMinds / local CAMHS single point of access

  • Family Help

3. Complaints Pathway

Purpose: Formal dissatisfaction with a decision, policy, member of staff's conduct (non-safeguarding), or how the school has handled something.

Stage 1 — Informal resolution:

  • Speak to the class teacher or relevant staff member first

  • Most issues resolved at this stage; note typical response time (e.g. 5 school days)

Stage 2 — Formal complaint to Headteacher:

  • Written complaint to Ben Painter, Headteacher

Complaints policy available on policy page

4. General Concerns Pathway

Purpose: Catch-all for concerns that don't clearly fit the above — minor issues, queries, or first-time visitors unsure where to go.
